Elephant in the Room is a regional disability service supporting people and families across Coonabarabran, Coonamble, Dubbo and Gilgandra. We provide therapy, behaviour support, support coordination and consultancy services grounded in evidence-based practice, genuine connection and a commitment to helping people live the lives they choose.

We’re proudly local, and we believe in bringing high-quality, person-centred support to the communities we call home.

Our Story

Elephant in the Room was established in 2015 by four friends and colleagues who shared a vision: to provide disability services of the highest quality to people living in the Central and Far West of NSW. Each founder brought deep experience in therapy, education, behaviour support and rural practice — and all shared a passion for supporting people with disability and the people who stand beside them.

The name “Elephant in the Room” reflects the heart of our work: seeing what matters, talking about it openly and respectfully, and supporting people in ways that honour their strengths, choices and lived experience. From day one, we’ve believed in offering services that are both professional and profoundly human.

What Matters to Us

We are committed to providing services that are:

Person-centred
Every individual and every family is different. We design supports around what matters most to the person — their goals, their routines and their unique ways of doing life.

Evidence-based and practical
Our work is grounded in best-practice models, but always shaped into strategies that actually fit real daily life.

Collaborative
We work alongside families, carers, schools, providers and communities because we know the best outcomes come from shared understanding and teamwork.

Flexible and creative
Rural and regional life is resourceful by nature. We embrace that spirit — adapting approaches, thinking laterally and meeting people where they are.

Respectful and strengths-focused
We recognise the dignity, capability and potential in every person. Our job is to support people to see it in themselves.
